shelton residence - featured in the October 2004 issue of Wood Digest Magazine.
a bright open kitchen in the heart of marin county. made from solid cherry wood and stained with a dark, rich ebony. the double height, frosted-glass cabinets add a great deal of extra storage without becoming overbearing. the oversized stainless steel bar pulls increase the modern sense and coordinate perfectly with the appliances.

Backyard: new pool equipped with attached hot tub, waterfall, waterslide. and fireplace, all built in to the hillside out of "rock" (concrete made to look like rock). Work completed by: MacDonald and Son.
this was an amazing, two-year project for Pick Your Seat Interiors. it was a complete remodel of the original 3,800 square foot structure, as well as an addition of a 2,500 square foot master suite, an amazing barn, a pool (complete with waterslide and fireplace), and an awesome outdoor bar.
Pick Your Seat was originally hired on as the sole interior designer with responsibilities such as selecting materials, picking colors and developing floorplans (for the kitchen, all bathrooms, outdoor living spaces, etc). eventually we took on a larger role with project management responsibilities, as well as being selected to design and build many furniture projects. it was a dream project!!
see below for details.
the kitchen:
features custom-made knotty alder cabinets (built by bob clausen of novato-based custom-built cabinets). the side-by-side sub-zero refers, the dual kitchen aid dishwashers, and double warming drawers are paneled to seamlessly blend in with the cabinets around them. to the left you can see another custom feature, the heavy-duty, pull-out cutting board.
the countertops are an amazing turquoise and rust swirled quartzite (quartzite is a natural stone on the scale between granite and marble).
the amazing copper hood was designed by Pick Your Seat and built by local company, copperworks.
the master bath: knotty-alder cabinets (custom-built cabinets), travertine floors with travertine mosaic accent boarders (on floor, shower wall, and mirror surround).
douldsided shower with open skylight ceiling.
pictured below : custom-made, by Pick Your Seat, mirror.
guest bath: (above and left) knotty-alder cabinets, travertine floors, limestone counter top, rough limestone mosaic mirror surround and accent (see detail at left), seamless shower surround.
upstairs baths: (to right) maple cabinets, travertine floors, limestone counters, china blue woven limestone boarder tile. copper mirror in bath 2 and custom barnwood mirror in bath 3. bath 3 (far right) features built-in stacked washer and dryer.

dining room: surrounded by glass and beautiful views out to the pool and backyard, the dining room might be my favorite space in the house. the floor is the reclaimed hickory that runs through the rest of the house, but a change of direction and an intricate boarder set it apart from the rest. the table is as solid redwood slab (12' long, 3.5' wide and 5" think). it was designed and built by Pick Your Seat (table base built by russ manzoni - ornamentals) and seats 12 comfortably. the light fixture was also designed and built by Pick Your Seat (metal work also ornamentals, electrical consult - mike mariani electric).

main bar: the ultimate entertainment space! it seats 15, has two 46" plasmas in view, 3 undercounter refers, ice maker, commercial glass washer, & copper sink the backsplash (my favorite material in the house) is a honey-onyx ledgestone, enhanced with rope lighting. the actual bar as a dark stained knotty-alder and features onyx panels that are backlight for a very dramatic effect. the drink trays, footrails and all the hardware is copper. the bar top is aging nicely already, with many nights of dice leaving their mark.
powder room: we took a few chances in this space, went much darker with the wood-work. a rich dark cherry wainscotting and chest-like vanity are matched with a stunning limestone ledgestone. the vessel copper sink and copper sconces pull the rust color from the stone and were the inspiration for the wall color.
